How was your 4th of July weekend? I was thankful for the long weekend and that we were able to spend it visiting different places in our town everyday. Independence Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. I love the relaxed feeling, the summer weather, and the firework shows. You don't have to worry about buying presents, visiting all your relatives, or stressing out about cooking all kinds of food. At least, for me I prefer just eating barbecue and the good ol' American hot dogs and hamburgers. Yum!
We began our 4th of July celebration at Vilano Beach in St. Augustine, Florida. I'll post pictures of that soon! It was a lovely beach and we were glad the rain stayed away for the day, especially since I was looking forward to the fireworks that night. We ended up watching fireworks by the riverbank in Orange Park provided by Moosehaven, just outside of Jacksonville.
Here is where we sat in the grass overlooking the St. John's River. We laid out a blanket, bought some Powerade to drink since we forgot to bring our water bottles, and used a traditional handheld fan to stay cool (I started keeping one in my purse all summer for times like this).
It was hot out there but definitely worth it to see the amazing fireworks show and celebrate America's birthday.
As a bonus, from our view, we were also able to see the firework shows from other parts of town that were across the river. Most of them began at 9 pm. Ours started closer to 9:30.
Here's a video of a portion of the fireworks display at Moosehaven:
