Summer Must-Haves You Need to Survive this Summer

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Alright folks, summer is unofficially here! After a long Memorial Day weekend and spending several hours out in the sun, I remembered that I wanted to share a post about summer must-haves that every person needs in their bag to survive this summer. You can never be too prepared! Here is a guide to what you should consider packing in your summer beach bag, purse, or if you're a guy, just tote it around somehow (pockets, man purse, or backpack?), before heading outdoors.

Summer Essentials

  • Sunscreen: Check out EWG's sunsreen guide. They just released their 10th one. It includes the best and worst suncreens for kids and adults and the best moisturizers with SPF.
  • Lip balm with SPF
  • Moisturizer with SPF
  • Water bottle
  • Misting bottle with water for spraying onto your face, hair, or anywhere else. This can help you stay cool and refresh while you're in the heat.
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Face towelettes to wipe off any dirt or grime while you're out in the heat.
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Extra clothes
  • Sandals/sneakers/comfy shoes: Consider keeping a pair of sandals or flip flops in your bag or car.
  • Towel
  • Bag to place wet clothes
  • Beach blanket/bamboo mat or something to place on the ground if you spontaneously decide to head to the beach or have a picnic.
  • Plastic table covers to place over picnic tables or on the ground whenever you need it.
  • Bug repellent - the mosquitoes and other pests are on the prowl. Keep the bites away!
  • First aid kit with bandages, tweezers, small scissors, gauze, anti-itch cream, medication like Neosporin for cuts and scrapes, tissue paper, aloe vera, eye drops, pain/headache medication, lip balm, sanitizing wipes, etc.
  • Portable chargers for cell phone
  • Battery-operated fans to keep cool while you're outside
  • Beach bag/large tote bag
  • Flashlight
  • Deodorant
  • Camera
  • Selfie stick
  • Summer book to read - You may be doing a lot of sitting out in the sun by the pool or water this summer or maybe you're spending an hour waiting in a theme park line. Your phone might be dead or your child needed it to stay distracted. Whatever the case, bring a fun summer book in your bag to take along with you so that you can whip out and pass the time.
  • Cash - lots of places are still cash only like when you have to pay parking, park admission, food vendors, etc. Better to have some cash on hand for convenience.
  • Umbrella/poncho - here in Florida, summer months mean hurricane season so we never know when it might start pouring.
  • Baby wipes - you never know when you might need it. Maybe you didn't realize there's no toilet paper in your stall at the bathroom especially if you're at a park or beach. You may need it to wipe off sticky messes or surfaces while you're out.
  • Hand wipes and sanitary wipes - I carry these everywhere I go now. Similar to baby wipes, you never know when you will need it. Recently, while we were at church my daughter got marker on her new  dress. Luckily, I wiped it off right away with these hand wipes I had and it removed the stain completely without ruining the dress.

It's going to be a hot summer but we do plan on spending a lot of time outdoors. What are some things you would add to this summer must-have list? Share and let me know. I'd love to hear it!
