Summer Lovin’ Date Ideas

  Oh, Those Summer Nights

These summer days have been long while simultaneously feeling short.  I have my children with me at home for the summer and juggling both kids while trying to keep up with work can be exhausting.  It has been fun, however; we have been bonding and keeping busy with outdoor activities, watching summer movies at the theater, visiting the book store and library.  We are also preparing to move, adding to the chaos and time consumption to our summer.  That is why I am thankful for guest posts from friends to keep things fresh around the site while I handle affairs at home.  Today, I'm happy to have a good friend of mine share a post with us.  She is offering some sweet summer date ideas for couples with a touch of Grease nostalgia (one of my favorite movies)!

The summer days (and nights) will be drifting away before you know it so enjoy a few dates with your love before it is over with these fun, simple but romantic ideas from LollyAnn! I, for one, need to take her advice and enjoy some of these dates with my hubby since we have not been able  to 'date' much this summer with all the crazy going on lately.

Summer Lovin’ Date Ideas

“Summer loving had me a blast ohh yeah
Summer loving happened so fast
I met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be.”
- "Summer Nights"
written by Jacobs Jim and Casey Warren

If the film Grease has taught us anything, it is that summer is the season of love. As the days get longer and the nights get warmer, the summer months produce conditions that become your greatest dating ally. The summer season creates more options for going outdoors and creating fun, exciting, and memorable dates. Contrary to popular belief, it does not have to be expensive.  For an unforgettable date, create an environment where great conversation is possible and the experience is fun and meaningful for the both of you.

Get Cookin’

“Tell me more, tell me more
How much dough did he spend?”

Sharing a meal is a great and relaxing way to get to know another person but restaurants can be loud, monotonous and expensive. Instead, enjoy the outdoors and dine al fresco at your favorite park by making a picnic basket with a loaf of bread, artisanal cheese, fruit and don’t forget the wine.

Explore with Day Trips

“Tell me more, tell me more
Like does he have a car?”

Day trips provide the perfect arena to create a memorable date. The short road trip offers an excellent
environment for conversation and the final destination gives both parties a chance to explore a new setting together.

Go Wine Tasting or Visit a Brewery

“He showed off, splashing around...”

Sure, you can go to the local supermarket and pick up your favorite wine or six-pack of beer but where is the excitement in that? Splash into something new by visiting a winery or brewery. Many wineries and breweries offer free tours and tastings which is a great way for the both of you to learn something new or for you to show off your knowledge and impress your date.

Summer Movie Series

“Summer days drifting away
To, uh oh, those summer nights...”

The summer nights are the perfect time for outdoor movie watching. Skip the cold and smelly venue of a movie theater; instead, go to a free outdoor summer movie series. Enjoy a romantic night watching a movie under the stars and nestling beneath a cozy blanket. Ditch the long, expensive concession lines and bring your own food and drink. This is a fun, romantic and cheaper way to experience the movies.

 “We went strolling, drank lemonade...”

Summer nights also present perfect strolling conditions. Why not make the evening walks visually stimulating as well. Artwalks are a free monthly self-guided tour that are a blend of local art, live performances, food and events in the downtown areas of many cities.

“Well-a well-a well-a huh
Tell me more, tell me more
But you don't gotta brag.”

A great way for a couple to get to know one another is to lend a helping hand. Animal shelters offer a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and to make cute, furry friends. If animal shelters aren’t your thing, there are several other ways to get involved, such as with food banks, park cleanups, etc.  By joining your efforts in a cause you both care about, you will not only get to know one another but also feel good about helping others in need.

I love these ideas.  Thank you so much, LollyAnn, for sharing them with us today.  Don't let these summer nights escape without experiencing a little summer lovin' with your love.  What date ideas are you excited to try or do you have any that you would like to share?  Let me know, I'd love to hear about it!
