Valentine's Day Easy Food Ideas

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Simple, Kid-Friendly Food for Valentine's Day

If you're looking for a few easy and fast, no-fuss Valentine's Day food ideas, here are a few we whipped up this past weekend.  They're so simple to make but still fits well with the Valentine's Day weekend coming up.  These are great for kids, too!  The big heart pancake with sprinkles and mini heart pancakes are perfect to start off your Valentine's Day morning.  Then, easily make the heart-shaped grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids to enjoy for lunch or dinner.

Pancakes, Heart Cake

Valentine's Day Heart Pancake

I decided to bake the pancake to make the large heart shape.  I used a heart baking pan and just threw it in the oven to cook.  That's an added bonus with this pancake, you don't have to stand by the stove waiting to flip the pancake!  Just set the timer!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease Heart cake pan
  3. Mix the pancake mix with the water to create a pancake batter consistency.
  4. Add in sprinkles and swirl around to make the colors mix for a pretty effect, optional.
  5. Pour batter into pan and let cook for 15-20 minutes until toothpick comes out clean in center.
  6. Eat right away like you would a regular pancake.  You can add other toppings like whip cream, fruit and of course, syrup!

Valentine's Day Hear-Shaped Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Grilled Cheese, Sandwich, Easy food

What You Need:

  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • 6 slices of bread, depending on how many sandwiches you would like to make
  • 3 slices of cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (we already had oil in the pan so these sandwiches came out a little darker but we usually use butter)

Grilled Cheese, Heart Sandwich

Instructions:

  1. Use cookie cutter to cut out hearts from bread slices.  (You can save the slices to make bird's nest later like I did in this previous post or even to make Nutella heart-shaped sandwiches like we did with ours).
  2. Use cookie cutter to cut out hearts in the slices of cheese.
  3. Heat butter on medium-low in pan.
  4. Cook first layer of bread on one side for about a few seconds, add cheese, then add top layer of bread.
  5. Flip over and cook until golden-brown.

You can also eat these little pancake cakes without jelly which is what my daughter did and she loved it!  These are great for eating with coffee, too and probably will be delicious with peanut butter or Nutella. ;)

What types of food will you be making for Valentine's Day?  Any quick and easy ones you would like to share?  Let me know, I'd love to hear it or share a photo!

Happy cooking!
