Turning Six Years Old

My Son's Birthday

I can't believe my little boy is another year older.  He turned six yesterday which makes me feel older, too!  I feel like he is still that little boy who could not make complete sentences but now he is speaking very well.  All. The. Time.   He sure is a talker!  He does not always articulate every word correctly.  This happens when he first learns a word or pronounces a word that he is used to saying a certain way like the word, "yellow."  He still says, "lellow" or instead of saying "pretend" he says, "tender."  We correct him every time but oh, well, I'm sure he will have it all down by next year!

My Six Year Old's Milestones

This past year, my son has grown so much.  He started kindergarten and has learned and improved academically.  He can add and subtract.  He has began to read and can spell several words and write sentences.  His artistic skills have improved, as well.  He can draw out scenes and can tell you all the details.  He loves drawing out pictures of our family.  He also likes to draw pictures of his friends from school and the activities they do like basketball or playing tag on the playground.

Changes and Adjustments in Family Life

When he began going to extended day a few months ago, it was tough because it was another change in our routine.  I remember being sad that week as we went through the adjustment and I once again felt like I was abandoning him and leaving him in school longer.  He does have longer days now which I still feel bad about because he's in school until 6 PM.  That sure is a long day for a young child!  As with any family, however, you do what you must and family life is all about constantly juggling and adjusting.

And now we will be adjusting to the life of a six year old...
