Blogging Tips for Beginners or Aspiring Bloggers

{Originally published on 8/2014}

When I first began blogging, it was for my personal use as a creative outlet and as a fun way for me to record and discuss my journey as a mom. My reasons for maintaining this blog are still the same, but this blog and its content have evolved. This year, I have learned so much more when I decided to take this blog to the next level, such as working with other brands, marketing my blog, doing PR work, and making income as a social media influencer and blogger.

Back to School Blues: Helping Kids Conquer New School Year Fears

Every day for the past week, my daughter has been asking where her big brother is. He started kindergarten last Monday and she and I have both been missing him while he is away. He has been having worries too, about starting kindergarten, constantly asking why he needs to go and why his old friends cannot be there, too. It has been an important reminder that kids have plenty of fears and anxiety when it comes to new things like starting a new school. I wanted to share some tips below on how to help your child if he is also having these fears about starting a new school year.

Tips to Ease Back to School Fears

{Originally published on 7/2014}

It's time for back to school! For many students, the thought of returning to school can make kids nervous and anxious but also excited for the new school year. We moved this summer and that meant our son had to switch schools, adding on even more anxiety. I'm not surprised that he has told me he feels scared and nervous about attending a new school and making new friends. I've been trying different ways to ease his fears about leaving his old school behind. If you are in the same boat, here are some tips that we tried that may help your child with new school year jitters.

Walking from School Safety Tips {Mommy Cab Discussions}

{Originally published on 8/2014}

In a recent car ride, we had a Mommy Cab Discussion where I reminded my son about safety tips walking from school. I remember when my parents moved my siblings and me to our new neighborhood (way back when I was a kid), we started going to a new elementary school that was close enough for us to be able to walk home. At the time, both my parents worked during the day, so I walked home home with my older brother and some other neighborhood children. Our middle school was close enough, as well, to walk from so we did. Now that I'm a parent and we just moved to a new home where the school is right next door, I'm finding myself walking from school again!

Magic of Lights in Daytona Beach, FL

"Yights! Yights!" When my daughter was about two or three years old, she would say yights instead of lights whenever she saw Christmas light decor. It's one of my favorite memories that we laugh about every holiday season and driving around to see holiday lights is one of our family's favorite activities before Christmas. Therefore, when we found out about Daytona's Magic of Lights experience on the International Speedway, we were thrilled and had to try it!
