Ways to Connect with Kids Through #SummertimePlay

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Play time is a time to Bond

It is officially summer and Father's Day (Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there!).  We are finishing up our second week of being on summer break and although I am more exhausted than usual every day, I cherish these long summer days.  I have two young kids who still enjoy playing on the playground, visiting the park and most importantly, hanging out with me, their mom!  I know these days are limited and one day, their summer breaks won't always include me and definitely will not include playtime at the park.  That is why these summer days are important to spend outdoors with the kids to allow you time to bond with them.  The International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) and The Voice of Play are promoting ideas to get kids and parents outdoors this summer.  I am excited to share their initiative with families along with the tips below on ways to connect with your kids outdoors.

Healthy Summer Treats

It is already June 15th, the second week of my son's summer vacation.  The official start of summer has not yet began but the hot weather and all the fun summer activities are in full swing.  To keep cool, I have been making more summer treats that require no baking like these banana popsicles mixed with Chia seeds.  They are organic Chia seeds from Foods Alive that I won in a giveaway along with a whole collection of healthy goodness from their line.  I decided to give the Chia seeds a try with these banana popsicles.  One of the recipes they suggested to use them with were pudding.  I'll have to try that one soon, too.  These popsicles with Chia seeds came out delicious!  This is a great recipe to stay cool and healthy while keeping your sweet tooth satisfied this summer.

Setting Up Your House to Tackle Potty Training

Kids and Potty Training

I remember when our son was potty training.  The transition took more time and he had a few fears like not wanting to sit on his potty when it was time for a number two!  I also remember when our daughter was potty training.  It went more smoothly and she got it down much faster and at a younger age.  We used different and similar methods to help them both and it could have been various factors which caused one to potty train faster than the other.  I think an important way to help with potty training is to prepare your home for the process.  If you are a parent going through potty training with your child or know someone who is or will be in the future, I am happy to bring you today's guest post that offers helpful tips to set up your house for potty training.

Cold Summer Treat That's Healthy and Tasty

Hello, June!  Can you believe it is already June?  The weather has been hot, hot, hot here in the sunshine state of Florida. That means it is time to think about what kinds of tasty, cold treats you will be having to stay cool!  I am sure we will have plenty of rainy days to come, as well.  The treat I'm sharing today is one that is perfect for a hot or rainy day whether you are stuck inside or enjoying the sun.  Having cold treats does not mean they have to be unhealthy, however, especially if you are trying to maintain a healthy diet for your family like the tips I discussed with my post on the #ChobaniKids Project.  This recent popsicle recipe I put together for my family is something I will be making this summer along with other flavors that I will be sharing with you all throughout these hot summer months.  This homemade berry popsicle recipe is an simple recipe using natural ingredients to keep you cool and on the healthier side.
