Ideas to Honor Memorial Day

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Memorial Day is this coming Monday, although in the United States, many of us are celebrating the holiday the entire weekend. It's one of the long weekends many look forward to since schools and business are closed, leaving a Monday to relax and take time off from the daily grind. However, Memorial Day's meaning is also lost on many. The reason we have this holiday is unknown to some people, mostly younger people and our children. This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to teach them and show them ways to honor the holiday while enjoying it.

Coping with Goodbyes when the School Year Ends

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

May is almost over, which means Memorial Day is on its way, and summer will be sweeping in before we know it. This all boils down to the school year coming to a close. It always makes me a little sad knowing that my child will be moving on from his old class, teacher, and friends. At the ends of this school year, our son knows that one of his good friends will be moving. This is one of those parenting moments that is hard to watch as your kid experiences saying goodbye to a close friend. I put together some tips I wrote for my latest post for Jacksonville Moms Blog on how to cope with goodbyes to friends moving. I gathered them from fellow mamas who went through a similar situation with their children. I hope you'll find these helpful if you're little one is going through the same thing, too.

8th Birthday Letter for My Son

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Every year, for my son's birthday, one of my favorite traditions to uphold and gifts to give my son is a birthday letter. I originally had a letter written that was nearly ready to publish when my mischievous cat hit delete. She wiped the entire post without me realizing! I was away from my computer and made the mistake of leaving it open along with leaving my office door open. Lesson learned! So here is the new letter to my son for his birthday with some printable quotes throughout the post that you're free to download.

Mother's Day DIY Floral Prop

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Mother's Day is one of my favorite times of the year. For obvious reasons, of course! I feel that I get more love on Mother's Day than my own birthday. I think it's well deserved, though, since I did put in more work to be able to celebrate being a mom compared to my birthday when my mother did all the work. Haha, I'm kidding! All I really want for Mother's Day is to sleep in, have a glass of wine (or two), and not have to cook or clean. But please don't leave it all for me to have to do on Monday! I want to share with you  a fun, simple, and beautiful Mother's Day gift and decor idea  that's in the spring issue of the Ella and Annie Magazine.

Happy 8th Birthday to my Not-so-Little Boy

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Recently, I woke up thinking, "Oh my gosh, is it really here? What happened to last year and last month? How fast did yesterday blur right before my eyes?" What am I rambling on about? Well, my son just celebrated his eighth birthday. It comes the same time every year and it always gets here before I'm ready. This time, though, I felt that it was a bit different. I think it's because he's actually showing signs that he is growing up, that he is learning more about the real world, and that he really is an older child instead of a little boy. **Cue water works.** Welcome to another Mommy Cab Discussion!

Summer Scientist Bug Catching Kit Giveaway

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

Hello May! One more month until school is out and summer is in! There are many things to look forward to during the summer but mosquitoes are not one of them. We get a lot of those pesky bugs biting us as soon as it gets hot here. They are not only a nuisance, but they also pose potentially serious health risks. Fortunately, the experts at Orkin study the science of mosquitoes and other pests closely in order to better tailor plans that help keep them out of your home this summer. To help prepare yourself and your family to fight the bite, Orkin presents the “Buzzer Beater” app, which features its deep scientific knowledge of mosquitoes. Orkin is also offering a fun giveaway pack for your family!

Cruise with Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

Written by, Bernadyn Nettles

What do you think of when you think of pirates? Is it buried treasure, the high seas, and eye patches? That's what comes to my mind, as well as my kids' faces as they scrunch up their faces to contort it into a pirate's glare and talk about finding buried treasure everywhere they go now. We took a trip this past weekend to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to try Bluefoot Pirate Adventures. It included an unforgettable crew and a memorable experience for the whole family.
